Resumed work in Locus 2 , especially concentrating in the areas around the roots and stumps which are higher in elevation than the rest of the trench surface. Pick pass begun in the northern meter moving south. Soil sorted into buckets and cleaned from the trench. Level remains consistent with Locus 2 , included with roots and rocks 5-15cm in length. Few artifacts recovered, including terra cotta and pottery. One bucket sieved and a 1-2cm fragment of worn pottery recovered. A second bucket sieved, no artifacts recovered. Third bucket sifted and no artifacts found. Hand picks used to remove soil from around the stumps and large roots so that they could be removed. One root removed from the northeast corner and several from the stump along the northwest baulk wall. Two smaller stumps removed from the

central part of the southern meter. Second pick pass begun in the northern meter moving south, soil sorted into buckets and cleaned from the trench. One bucket sorted and no artifacts recovered. During cleaning in the central portion of the northern meter, one fragment of vitrified terra cotta recovered.
