AM

This morning the central and eastern areas of the trench were still damp. Consequently, we concentrated on cleaning the western baulk wall. Locus 3 will be declared across the entire trench.

Locus 3 (Opening Elevations)

N.W. – 307.74mASL

N.E. – 307.50mASL

S.E. – 307.56mASL

S.W. – 307.73mASL

Locus 3 appears to contain much intact tile. In the eastern meter we can observe three stones that appear to arranged in a linear pattern running north-south. These were further defined and there appears to be a tile packing in the area too. Likewise in the west of the trench tile became apparent also.

Rain began to fall and trench was tarped.

PM

Rain postponed excavation after lunch. Once work recommenced we came across more tile. Now four rocks appear to be in a formation, north-south, in the east of the trench. We will declare this a new locus in due course. The soil to the easrt of the stones is packed with tile and a darker soil. In the west of the trench more tile is emerging and is also in a packed formation. We will give this a new locus number also.
