Because of the distinct soil stratigraphy beneath the stone packing excavated in CA 36 in 1993, it was decided to make a section cut immediatley south of the stone formation. The cut was made in N 2-3, W 1-2 in a rectangle approximately 60 x 120 cm. Two distinct types of soil were encountered. Olive brown [2.5 Y, 4/3] soil in north west corner of the rectangle was designated locus 5. More yellowish light olive brwon [2.5 Y, 5/3] constituted the rest of the rectangle. It contained numerous

stones and small calcium inclusions and wsa designated locus 6.

As the excavation of the rectangle progressed locus 5 soil became darker due to numerous carbon inclusions, becoming dark grayish brown. Locus 5 is located still in north west corner of the rectangle, its north section indicating that it extends underneath and to the west of the stone formation.

At the depth of 30-35 cm b.d. locus 6 soil became even more rocky, with many white and yellow calcium inclusions,

All the archaeological material recovered during the day came from locus 5, locus 6 being sterile. 5 small worn pieces of tile (1-3 cm) and 1/3 of latte box of pottery fragments, including bucchero and different types of impasto, were recovered. Also 17 bone fragments including 5 animal teeth were found. Finds of the day included an amorphous piece of bronze and bronze sheet fragment of regular shape.

Section drawings of north and west baulk were made.

Soil types in section cut seem to be consistent with findings made during excavation of CA 36 stone packing in 1993, in N 6, W 1 (see JB 4, p. 167-229).
