Meters C-F 90-91 were cleared of topsoil. This area continues to overlie a tile dump from previous excavations, so recovery of tiles and the resultant cassette counts are misleading. In CD 90 large pieces of tile were found, while in C-F 91 the pieces were smaller and more badly worn (because of the front-end loader- see p. 27 ). Work was abandoned here by 10:30, in order to concentrate on other areas of the trench, but all finds came either from the topsoil

in this area, or from the pockets of dumped tile.

The area of excavations from 1987 in grids G-I 91-93 was to be cleaned down to the protective plastic. When this process is completed, it will not only allow better access to the northwestern portion of the current area to be excavated, but will also reveal the level of the tile fall found above the southeast bldg.'s floor level (although not the floor itself) in 1987.

A 10 cm cut through meters G-J 96-97 was completed, in order to define the stratigraphy of this southeast area, and to explore the nature of the galestra layer clearly seen in the 1987 balk. This cut was through dark brown, rooty soil, and yielded very little tile and one smal piece of worn pottery. A cut to 20 cm was begun, but not completed.
