It has been decided to returnto the area of South Flank this season in order to further define the orientalzing structure which is situated under the southern side of Upper Building. This year's excivations will be concentrated in the western, unexcivated portion of R14. It is hoped that this work will further define the Upper Building wall divinding R14, which was noted in the 1996 season. In addition, the main goals for this season's excivations in SF are to recover materials from the floor of the orientalizing structure and further define its southern wall.

In conjunction with this exploration, work will continue on the other portions of R14, R13 and R15 inorder to further define last year's work in these areas. Another trench, Agger 9 Extension (see GM I, 1997 ), will be excivated immediatly west od R13, in order to explore the possibility that the northern orientalizing wall may continue below the west wall of the Upper Building.

It should also be noted here that the excivations in South Flank will be laid out according to the master grid system, which has been extended across the entire hill. The SF tremch will be laid out by triangulating off of PC 6 which is located in the "templum" at 0, E150.
