As of today, V-W/54-55 is at 80 cm.  A plaster pack is found at this level in some places and not in others.  Tiles rest on top of this level and within it.  Some stones also rest on top of the tiles.  However, very little tile has been found here.

Those pieces left in situ previously have been lifted.  Little tile is visible within the plaster pack layer, but there could be more below conceivably.  Essentially, there is very little in these four meters (so far).  Grids V-W/52-53 are somewhat higher than 54-55.  V-W/51-53 are only, roughly, 80 cm below surface.  A few tiles were found at this level and were lifted after having been photographed.

This morning work was concentrated in grids 49-50/V-X.  These were brought down to 70 cm below surface.  Earth in these meters was yellow in color ( see p. 27 ), except in grid 49/V.  There, the soil became darker and rich in plaster.  No plaster had been encountered in grids 50/V-X.

V-W/53 was cleaned further in an effort to take it from 70 cm to 80 cm.  A few new tiles, cover and pan, were found and left in place.  One piece of bronze was found in 53/V.  Earth is reddish and plaster-filled.

The backfill on the southeast building was removed due south of our trench in order to determine floor level exactly.

50-51/X was picked to roughly 75 cm (below the northern baulk at "V").  One large fragment of a pan tile was found, but little else.  Earth is still brown and devoid of plaster.

Pottery, on the day, filled a small cassetta.  Orangeware, coarseware, and impasto are most common wares.  Some buccheroid pottery was also found.  Burning is evident on some of the fragments.
