11 July 2024 AM The morning began with a pickpass in Locus 1. The soil remains densely compacted with frequent inclusions of plaster and vitrified terracotta. The pickpass was begun along the eastern extent of the trench due to its higher elevation. While sorting by hand into buckets, a fragment of a covertile with possible siglum was found (special find #11).
Special Find #11 Locus 1 172.89m E 66.13m S 26.78mAE Covertile with Finished Edge and Siglum fragment
The soil remains a soil and clay mixture with large amounts of degrading plaster. The layer is similar to the soil excavated as the top layer of excavation in T26 2019, 2022. Soil was cleaned and sorted into buckets.
PM The trench in the easternmost extent was picked because it remains at a higher elevation than the remainder of the trench. Frequent rocks and small to medium tree roots are being found in the northern and easternmost extent of the trench. While sorting close to the rocks in this area, a fragment of bucchero with molded decoration was found (special find #12).
