Metals Summary
Excavation of CB-61 revealed little in terms of metals. The most substantial event of a metal discovery occurred in Locus 3 with a fragment of bronze, (p. 67). However, Locus 3 remained a potentially decontextualized context. Locus 6 later revealed a second flake of bronze, measuring one centimeter in length and approximately one millimeter in width, (p. 111).
The fragment of bronze recovered in Locus 3 is notably substantial, weighing .3g. Conversely, the flake of bronze from Locus 6 weighs 0.01g. Both fragments could have been a result of erosion, but the lack of other examples discovered throughout the trench is telling. This is especially the case with the flake of bronze recovered in Locus 6 : the size and weight of the fragment itself, coupled with the absence of other metals leads to the conclusion that it is an anomaly, and not indicative of metal production in CB-61.
