July 22, 1969

Topsoil was removed from the remaining (north) edge of 37-43.  Earth was full of small stones, plus several layer rocks.  The north-east corner 33-37 stood about 30-40 cm higher than the adjoining T1 and T1 AJ, and was taken down to their level.  The east-west ridge of bedrock in T1 AJ ran into this corner, otherwise no finds or architecture.

A trench measuring 1x6.50 m running east-west was laid out down the center of 37-43, to determine whether the north-south wall of T1AJ continued south.  This rench occupies K 37-43.  A layer of small hard-packed stones underlay the surface and were removed.  The bedrock immediately underneath in east end was cleared.  Work stopped due to heat, to be continued later in week.

Meanwhile areas where bedrock was already visible in 37-43 (only a small part of the surface area) were cleared.  Excavation of earthier areas will await the results of K 37-43.

T6E

The first cut was extended another 7m to the W (grid N-S 14-8).  The second and third layer were taken off in the first cut and topsoil and the second layer in the second cut.  Comparatively few tiles were found.  ca. 4 boxes but sherds and finds appeared in two places N 21 and N 10.  4 strawberry boxes of sherds were collected from N 21 and 1 box of sherds altogether from grid N10.  The finds were from N 21 one sima bead, one waterspout head and fragments of sima.  Two lumps of bronze were found.  Also one large animal paw.

A third cut was made in T6E.  It cover the grid B-H 2-6 and measures 9.30 m E-W and 11.80 m N-S.  Topsoil was taken off.  this will be referred to as T6E(2) to distinguish it from the 1st and second cut.
