Daily Logs

10 th July, 2013

AM

Work began using hand picks and trowels to even up the baulk walls and level the trench. There is a line of rocks contemporaneous with those in CA-79 containing bone, roofing tile and pottery. The rocks were defined and any large roofing tile will be left in. There is a denser, lighter yellowish soil of decaying rock appearing along the eastern wall, consistent with CA-79 . It was decided to define the rock along the east and level the trench till the yellow soil is uncovered across the rest of the extension.

Work continued defining the rocks in the north/northeast area of the extension. To better understand how far west the rocks extend, the tree baulk in the extension was taken back to the tree in a 80 x 30 cm area. All the finds in this area will be baulk wall finds. The rest of the day was spent working on taking out the dirt from the stump in the southeast corner. Loose dirt was picked up and roots were clipped. End of day elevations were taken.
