Trench layout

T26 is an irregularly shaped rectilinear trench composed of a 9 meter x 3 meter section and a 2 meter by 2 meter section. The 2 meter x 2 meter section is located 2 meters from the northern baulk wall and extends to the east between 177E and 179E. An additional 3 m x 1.5 m extension is located 4 meters from the northern baulk wall and extends between 174E and 172.5E.   It encompasses portions of earlier T26 trenches including the T26 2019 (AJT/NKDII). The trench was triangulated off a longitudinal baseline along gridline 174E and a latitudinal baseline along gridline 68S.

The coordinates of the six corners of T26 at the start of the 2023 season are as follows:

NW1: 174E/64S

NE1: 177E/64S

NE2: 177E/66S

NE3: 179E/66S

SE1: 179E/68S

SE2: 177E/68S

SE3: 177E/73S

SW1: 174E/73S

SW2: 174E/71S

SW3:172.5E/71S

NW2:172.5E/ 68S

The corners are labeled on the trench layout drawing.

A datum point with an absolute elevation of 27.92 meters on the master grid has been established on a tree to the west of the trench.
