We began working in Locus 6 , using trowels to remove the medium olive-brown, claylike soil. Soil also contains numerous charcoal inclusions. One large piece of charcoal was collected as Soil Sample #1. Soil was hand-sorted in the trench into buckets, then sieved through a 1cm and a 2mm gauge sieve. While sorting in the trench, a vertebra (Find #1), a small fragment of diagnostic bone (Find #2), a piece of burnt bone (Find #3), and a sherd of what might be coil-made pottery with a convex rim (Find #4) were recovered.
As we worked through the locus, we came onto an apparently new soil in the southern area of the locus. This soil is lighter and yellow in color and appears to contain white limestone inclusions but little or no carbon. This new soil forms a shelf in the southern area of the cut, then its surface drops in elevation to the north. In the northern area of the cut, rocks seem to be lying atop this new soil. Therefore, we are attempting to remove the remaining Locus 6 soil, define the rocks, and expose the surface of the new soil. While doing this, a sherd of ridged bucchero (Find #5)
was recovered.
Once the stones were sufficiently defined, we decided to draw a plan of the rocks in situ. There are also two visible ceramic sherds, one impasto and one bucchero, situated amongst the rocks or just in the new, lighter soil. Once the plan was drawn, Locus 6 was closed and Locus 7 was opened. Closing photos and elevations for Locus 6 /opening photos and elevations for Locus 7 were taken.

Like the previous loci of the cut, the surface of Locus 7 slopes downward from south to north; the soil forms a higher shelf in the southern area of the cut and slopes downward to the north, where there is a concentration of rocks. We are using trowels to excavate the locus, which consists of a light yellowish soil with white limestone inclusions. The soil is notably denser and tackier than the soils of the overlying deposits and so far, contains fewer materials. Soil is hand-sorted in the trench, then sieved through a 1cm gauge and a 2mm
gauge sieve. A large piece of charcoal was found, which was collected as Soil Sample #2.

Work continued in the locus. We continued to use trowels to excavate into the tacky yellowish soil. Additionally, there is far less charcoal in this stratum than in previous loci. Soil was sorted in the trench then sieved, and smaller quantities of pottery and bone were found. As we worked, we realized that some of the soil from the higher southern ledge belonged to the previous locus. This was removed, and then we continued to work in Locus 7 , the floor of which is currently level. While troweling, a metallic droplet (Find #6) and a fragment of burnt bone (Find #7) were recovered. Additionally, a soil sample from the locus was collected for flotation. Closing elevations for the day were taken.
