Closed Locus 1, organic/root layer. No bulk pottery, 1/4 latte box terracotta.
To establish CD4 on the master grid, distance and direction to stakes marking trench corners were measured from grid points established by transit (see Kristen Lee Hostetler III, 2001). Distance was measured by tape and direction by magnetic compass. It was assumed that magnetic north lines up with the master grid north; error should be small.

Opened Locus 2.
Cleared approximately 10cm down below Locus 1, down to about 25cm. Uncovered black impasto and bucchero(?) near center of west baulk wall. Interesting black impasto rim and base sherds found about 20cm b.s. near center of south wall. A jumble of terracotta and pottery were found near SW corner. The pile began to appear at bottom of Locus 1 at 16cm b.s., and continued down below 25cm b.s. The pile was not removed today.
Several blackened pottery sherds and carbonized wood fragments appeared on west side, possibly indicating burning. No burn layer is evident in the soil, suggesting that the material was
redeposited here after it was burned.
Terracotta: 2/3 latte box.
Bulk Pottery: 1/3 latte box.
