Waterspout head
1T Cleaning of tilebed. A patch (1.5m x 1.5m) of red soil, surrounded by lines of greyish-yellow powdery soil (str. C?), appeared along the wall where the tilebed stopped ca. 2.10m facing E. Scattered tiles appeared at the N edge of the trench. A line of flat stones appeared along the E edge, apparently not connected with the wall.
1S Larger patches of red soil slowed excavation. One small corner of horse-race frieze was found, and at 3.50 E and 4.70 N a waterspout head and a hand. The hand was found to fit with one of the seated statues from trench 1G ( SC, book 1, p. 72 ).
