Excavation this morning began where work left off at the end of the day yesterday utilizing the morning light. It was evident that the northwestern extent of the trench is still a slightly darker color, indicating that there is still a small quantity of Locus 1 still covering Locus 2. Additionally, baulk walling will be done along the southern extent of the trench in order to create as clear a stratigraphic profile as possible. As more of Locus 2 is revealed in the western extent of the trench there is a very clear slope to Locus 2 that begins in the western extent and slopes downward to the east. While Locus 2 is present in between the two large wall stones that flanked the terra cotta drainage pipe, there is less density and seems to have materials present within, with what looks to be a large tooth and 1-2 larger pieces of terra cotta. Upon further examination of the terra cotta present between the two rocks of the Archaic wall, it has been decided to define the terra cotta as much as possible, photograph it in-situ, declare Locus 2, and excavate through Locus 2 in order to investigate what may be beneath. Prepping the excavation area for the declaration of Locus 2 will be the primary focus of work until lunch.
