Daily Log

We have changed our methodology. To effect the increased speed that has been our goal, we have turned to shovel-based clean up. We shovel the debris into buckets and sift through it over the wheelbarrow. This has, indeed, increased our speed, and I hope that we are not sacrificing too much care.During the morning, we picked deeply through Locus 6 1 2/3 times. The afternoon saw another 1 1/3 pick-passes. The increased speed is evidenced by three small (500 mL) latte boxes full of pottery, and the large number of wheelbarrow trips to the dump. During the course of the day, we paused twice from our dirt moving to straighten balks in order to keep them as straight as possible. I am fairly certain that we have not yet reached the white soil layer associated with the bottom of the wall, though we are probably within 10 cm in many places. We ran out of time before we could take closing measurements, so I cannot say exactly how close we are.
After we finish removing all of the Locus 6 soil, we will still have to excavate the wall spill of Locus 5 to reveal the face of the wall.
