Conclusions
The purpose of this excavation was to uncover the entire west wall of the Lower Building in order to be drawn and recorded. This basically meant removing portions of earth approx. 25-45cm above the wall left in previous excavations of R6 (
), R7 ( ), R8 ( ), R9 ( ), and R10 ( ). The work revealed that the West wall of the Lower Building runs uninterrupted at a standard width of 80cm in a N-S direction from grid F-5 of R6 tothe south wall of R11. The finds and strata were comparable to those recorded in previous excavations. The most interesting finds stemmed from the cleaning of the doorway between R6 and R7: 1) A Laconian fragment joining 19740033
found previously in that area; and 2) 3 joining fragments of a large base, perhaps part of a large "bean bowl" [ ]. It may also be noted here that the actual E-W width of the doorway seems to have been nearly 6cm wider than previously excavated, this extra length coming from the south flank.
