This morning the cut in D-E/68-70 was completed to a depth of ca. 100-110cm. The soil in meters D-E(68-69 was yellowish grey in color, very loose in consistency and contained a large amount of small rocks. No material was discovered in this yellowish grey soil. The soil in meters D-E/70 was reddish brown in color and contained a high concentration of carbon and disintegrated plaster. In addition, much of both the pottery and plaster recovered from this area was burned. One box of mixed pottery was discovered among the reddish brown soil. One cassetaa of tile, including a few, small vitrified pieces,
was also recovered. At the end of the morning the trench floor in meters D-E/68-70 was swept down in order to more clearly define the area of the reddish brown soil. Cleaning revealed the reddish brown soil to be primarily located in meters D-E/70 and to apparently extend into the eastern balk of the trench. The trench floor in meters D-E/68-70 was then photographed and drawn.
P.M.
A 20cm. cut was taken in meters F-G/68-70, extending the depth of the trench floor in these meters from ca. 90-100cm to 110 to 130cm. The soil in the cut was dark brown in color and contained a large amount of rocks. These rocks appear to form a continuation of the \'rock pack\' previously enounctered at higher levels in this area. One half box of worn impasto pottery and one quarter of a box of tile were recovered. The floor of the trench was then swept down in order to more clearly define the position of several of the large rocks. The rocks appear to be randomly placed with small concentrations of tile
and plaster between then.
