Work began today by picking through locus 7 soil and scraping the surface of locus 6 soil. While sorting locus 7 soil, medieval pottery was found (find 1)

Special find 1: medieval pottery

Locus 7 north extension

30.07 meters absolute elevation

8.80 meters west / 30.70 meters south

It appears that the locus 7 soil is increasingly light brown/yellow in hue. Because of this, the trench was leveled, scraped, and photographed in preparation for opening locus 8 . Locus 7 closing elevations are:

NE: 30.04 meters absolute elevation

SE: 30.06 meters absolute elevation

SW: 30.14 meters absolute elevation

NW: 30.12 meters absolute elevation

Center: 30.09 meters absolute elevation

Work continued by picking through locus 8 soil. While sorting locus 8 soil, a frieze plaque fragment was uncovered (find 2).

Special find 2: frieze plaque fragment and associated fragment

Catalogue Number: 20110080

Locus 8

30.04 meters absolute elevation

10.27 west / 29.12 meters south

Also, a very large piece of ridge pole tile was found. While excavating, a second piece of medieval pottery was excavated (find 3)

Locus 8

30.04 meters absolute elevation

It appears that a very large quantity of terracotta pan tiles are being unearthed from the north east meter of the trench. Also, the amount of rocks in the trench has increased, they vary from 5-20 centimeters in width. He larger rocks are embedded in deeper lays of soil. Another frieze plaque fragment was uncovered from the north western corner of the trench (find 4)

Special find 4: frieze plaque fragment

Catalogue Number: 20110071

Locus 8

30.07 meters absolute elevation

10.86 west / 30.63 meters south

PM

While excavating locus 8 , a cut out akroterion was unearthed (find 5)

Special find 5: cut out akroterion

Catalogue Number: 20110078

Locus 8

30.08 meters absolute elevation

10.70 west / 29.30 meters south

As locus 8 soil is being lowered, large stones are much more prevalent. Also, pottery is more prevalent though the amount is small. The amount of terracotta has been consistently large. A small piece of incised bucchero was found in the pottery box (find 5)
