Today's work begins by continuing the hand pick and troweling of the area between the potential rock features in T-81, to the east, and T-79, to the west, in the trench. We begin lightly pulling back the soil from the stones in the eastern-central meters of the trench that were exposed in Locus 2 of the original trench. Some potential stones in the northwestern meters, where the baulk wall between T-79 and T-78 had been, appear to extend the rock feature from T-79 and will be further explored with handpicks and trowels. Soil is still slightly damp, a dark brown a claylike soil with some white and carbon inclusions. There are few stoney inclusions. There are also some small pieces of tile and pottery, and some bone. While pulling back the soil near the stone in the northeastern corner of the original trench, a possible crucible fragment ( Find #1 ) was

recovered. Soil is hand-sorted into buckets and dumped into a wheelbarrow.

There is a potential soil change in the north-central meters of the trench, with the soil becoming more yellow and claylike. We will continue to pull back the soil in order to see if the soil change continues elsewhere in trench. Additionally, there is a relatively large quantity of pottery sherds in the northwestern section of the trench where the baulk wall between T-78 and T-79 had been. From this area, there is little tile.

While troweling in the northeasterly-central meters, in the roughly diagonal swath approximately northwest to central-east through the northern extension, a fragment of bone with a possible butcher mark ( Find #2) was uncovered. This same area has been yielding more pottery than tile, and in greater quantities than in the previous loci. Additionally, more fragments of bone have been recovered. In the

Work continued in the afternoon by using handpicks and trowels to define rocks and also lower the floor to search for materials and potential rock features. We are also tracing soil change running south in the trench. The soil is a much lighter brown and runs generally close to the current floor of the trench. Soil in the north is still dark with some inclusions. In between the rock feature in T-81 and T-79, we have 2 large rocks starting to be seen below the rocks in T-79. There have been tile, pottery, and bone recovered throughout the trench. Dirt is being sorted by hand over buckets and dumped into the wheelbarrow.

Still using handpicks and trowels, we have been tracing the soil change south and have been defining rock in the NW and chasing a soil change running from the NW corner diagonally to the center. In the northernmost meter of the extension we have recovered large tiles and overall in the trench have found more pottery than tile as well as a large amount of bone. Soil is being hand sorted over buckets and dumped into the wheelbarrow.
