Work began with a pick pass of Locus 11 , starting at the border between the mottled soil of Locus 11 and the heavily carbonized, burnt soil that lies beneath and slopes downward dramatically from the NW to the SE. The soil o the locus remains heavily mottled and claylike and contains a fair amount of tile, plaster, pottery, and bone; soil is sorted directly in the trench, into buckets. Once again, bulk bronze was established. During this pick pass, a bucchero body sherd with an od bulge (Find #1) was recovered.
A second pick pass was made, again to try to uncover more of the carbon-rich burnt soil already visible in the NW portion of the trench. Soil continues to be claylike and mottled and is sorted directly in the trench. During this pick pass, a piece of butchered bone and an incised bucchero rim (Finds #2, 3) were recovered.
Once the pick pass was sorted and cleaned up, it was decided to trowel out of the northwest corner, to better trace the slope of the drak-gray, carbon rich burn layer, and to remove large sherds of pithoi, which are clearly visible in the southern half of the trench.

Another pick pass was made, working away from the exposed burnt layer in the NW corner of the locus. Although the burn layer still does seem to be sloping down from the NW to SE , theslope seems to be getting less dramatic. Locus 11 soil is still claylike and mottled and is sorted irectly in the trench. In the eastern meters of the trench, the soil is less mottled and seems to contain less material than the western meters of the trench, although this difference does not seem enough to warrant a new locus. During this pick pass, a
possible piece of worked bone (butchered bone) (Find #4) was recovered.
