Morning

Work began by beginning a cut in ABC/8 which is about 15 cms. below the present floor level. This was done for two reasons- first, it was necessary to make this cut in order to expose the piece of burned wood in its entirety.  And second, it was also necessary in order to discern whether

or not there was more burned wood in the area. Thus, first the area around the burned wood was cleared.  This exposed a section of burned wood approximately 85 cm. in length and approximately 10 cms. in width.  Though it is badly burned, it appears to be just one piece of wood.  Most of the 15 cms.deeper that was dug was a continuation of the red layer.  The section of wood seems to be resting on the surface of the gray layer.

Meters ABC/8-9 were excavated at this extended depth-however, neither an extention of the section of burned wood nor an independent section of wood was found.

Though this level continued to produce bronze and ivory, very little of either material was found near the section of wood-and only one ivory fragment was found within 4 cms. of it.  In the other area excavated today ( B, A/8-9, C/8-9), several nicely incised fragments of ivory were found.  Some worked bronze was also found.

Tile continues to be frequent, pottery scarce.
