AM

Began by doing a pick pass of Locus 1 in order to level out the high areas. Murex shell has began to be exposed in the same general area as the 2007 and 2008 seasons (see JAH/JLL I p. 167 and AJC/ARR I p. 155-157 ). The first pick pass uncovered special find number 1, a bone bead. Also found a piece of impressed rim (special find #2). A second pick pass was done which exposed more rocks as well as pottery, terracotta, bone, and small amounts of plaster. A third pick pass was done which revealed a large amount of roots throughout locus 1 . Also found in the third pick pass was a sherd of incised bucchero (special find #3), what appears to be a sea snail shell that is not murex (special find number 4), another impressed rim fragment (special find #5), and a special find number 6, an intact rochetto with asterisk stamp. After the fourth pick pass the area remain rocky however the rocks are decreasing in size. There were also a large amount of roots. This pick pass yielded an unusual piece of terracotta with two finished edges (special find #7),

Cut bone (special find #8), ridge pole tile (special find #9) and a piece of ridged impasto rim (special find #10). 2 pick passes were also done in locus 2 were small amounts of terracotta and pottery were found, mainly near the northern baulk wall. Remaining backfill soil was removed from the stump.
