Eight boxes of tiles were dumped from this area during the day.
The main new characteristic revealed by the excavation of this area was the discontinuation of the orange plaster "pavement" which had continued for fourteen metres. At this point the bedrock outcrop which had been present on the eastern side of the trench rose to a higher level than that of the pavement. Fragments of
architectural terracottas continued to be produced pimarily in the area centering on the columns on grid squares E and F. F and H, 19 and 20 produced a blackened stratum which continued slightly into I19. This tratum was very productive of pottery, including sherds of stamped bucchero. The stone layer continued and extended throughtout the area included in columns D, E and F. For a plan of this area see the facing page.
Also in this day, a two metre extension to the north was laid out to include the area B-H, 23-24
Finds from this area included:
- Find # 2
- F23
-
