Meter L/96 continued to be excavated to trench floor level. Oddly enough, while there are rocks at this level immediately north of the cut (in K/96), no rocks at this level were found this morning, and only a few scattered pieces of tile. This either indicates that the rock/tile pack ends abruptly or is at a (suddenly) lower level in L/96 than K/96. One piece of pottery was recovered, as was an odd base (Find #1).
The stump, formerly in H/91-92, was cleaned using metaline. Several small, worn pieces of tile and one piece of pottery were recovered. The soil contained large amounts of plaster and plasterdust.
The baulks of F/90-92 were shaved back, revealing numerous pieces of embedded tile. Pithos pieces were found, along with less than 1/2 box of pottery. Several pieces of tile were removed.
Excavation of G/94 to trench floor level was begun. Soil remains the dark brown, rooty type with flecks of carbon and clay seen throughout the trench. One box of pottery/bone and less than 1/4 cassetta of tile were recovered.
P.M.
G/94 was completely excavated to trench floor level (approximately 70 cm). This cut, as with its initial indications this morning, yielded pottery and bone (mostly pottery - one small box full) in greater number than tile (less than 1/4 cassetta). F/94 to floor level was begun, yielding some pottery and very few pieces of tile.
L/96 was excavated to a fairly even depth of 25 cm. Several rocks appeared in the north central portion of this grid, and were left in place, but no other features appeared. Several pieces of tile and no pottery were recovered. Of interest, however, is an oddly shaped piece of clay (Find #3).
Excavation of the stump, formerly H/91-92, was completed. No pottery, but several small pieces of tile and plaster were found.
