Trench Layout
In 2006 a grid system was established for the excavations and surveying then starting in Vescovado di Murlo. An origin point [0-north, 0-east] was placed and marked within the exposed forno features; likewise the absolute elevation of this area was established relative to its height above sea level (ASL). In 2015 and 2016. And again this season in 2017, the areas being investigated will continue to utilize this system.
In order to establish the coordinates of VT17, Anthony Traversa and I, shot lines with the transit from known grid points in the tennis court uphill to the top of Colombaio. We then set up a north-south baseline within the Olive Grove owned by the Rubegni family and VT17 was established from this line. Likewise the datum was also shot from the datum in the tennis courts and was established on a fence adjacent to VT17. The datum point is 309.34mASL.
