Introduction 2005

Excavation of T-36 began in the 2004 season in order to further investigate the southeast portion of the southern courtyard of the archaic complex.  The trench was established in order to explore the topography of the southern courtyard, to search for evidence of orientalizing activity in the region, and to compliment work occurring in the T-30 trenches, clarifying the orientation of a possible architectural feature.

The 2004 excavation season ended before these goals could be completed, the trench having been excavated only to the upper orientalizing strata.  Consequently, T-36 has been reopened for the 2005 season in order to continue investigation of the southern courtyard area.  In addition, the trench will be excavated beyond the orientalizing horizon to search for evidence of prior habitation on the Tesoro plateau that predates known Orientalizing activity.

T-36 will be re-established with boundaries at S52/E167, S52/E171, S56/E157, and S56/E171 on the master grid system.  It should be noted

that the coordinates of the trench in the 2004 season were recorded one meter west of their true position on the master grid system.  All measurements have been readjusted accordingly.

The absolute elevation of the datum point is at 28.98 m on the master grid system.
