Description:

Locus 25 is a light brown soil and clay mixture which is rectangular in shape and slopes from the east to the west. The locus abuts the 174 E line to the west and extends 0.14 m from the 177 E line. It is directly south of the tile fall of Locus 24. The locus is 2.86 meters long at its longest point and 0.5 meters wide at its widest point. Locus 25 is equal to Locus 14 but was not excavated to the same depth as the remainder of the locus.

Locus 25 includes many small stones that were a part of a linear stone feature partially removed in 2022. While initially the locus appeared to be the same as Locus 24, the stones were revealed to be covering more of the tile fall, prompting it to be declared a separate locus and the stones to be removed to reach the full extent of Locus 24.

In its western extent, the locus was closed to excavate Locus 30’s carbon feature. Its eastern extent revealed tiles that were opened as Locus 33. One of the tiles was a cover tile with a possible siglum and finger swipe (PC20230039). Other inclusions in the Locus were composed of roots, bone, plaster, and ceramics. Of the ceramics found within the locus, the majority were fineware body fragments, making up 43% of the pottery count. No bucchero was found in the locus.
