A.M.
The western trench balk in meters D-G/68-70 was shoved back for sharper definition. The soil of the balk was dark brown in color and contained many small roots and rocks. In addition, several of the large stones left protruding last year from the balk in meters F-G/68-70 were removed. These stones form part of a heavy rock pack identified last year in these meters. Several large pithos fragments and some worn tile was discovered among the rocks. One half casetta of worn tile and one quarter of a box of weathered impasto sherds were removed from the balk.
A cut was also begun in meters B-C/68-70 from the present level of the trench
floor which lies at ca. 75cm. to a depth of ca. 85cm. The soil in meters C/68-69 was yellow to orange in color, very powdery in consistency with a high concentration of small rocks. No material was discovered in this soil. The soil in C/69 was dark brown in color and contained many small roots. One box of coarseware pottery, including some burned fragments, and a few pieces of bone, were discoved in the dark brown soil. One quarter of a casetta of worn tile was also found.
