A.M.
A third cut to 40 cm below surface was started in 54-55/V-W and in 49-50/X. A statue fragment was found in X/50. Half a cassetta of tile was filled. Some plaster was encountered as well. Pottery filled half a latte box and was predominantly coarse redware and orangeware. Some buccheroid fragments and occasional bone fragments were found as well.
Note: Dirt from this trench is being dumped on the southern defensive wall in an effort to preserve it.
49/V-W was taken down to the depth of our second cut (25 cm). Tile and pottery are found similar to that described above.

P.M.
V-W/51 was brought down to 40 cm and the 25 cm cut in 49/V-W was completed. One cassetta of tile was dumped at day's end (4:30 P.M.). Pottery filled a latte box. Earth at 40 cm is somewhat lighter in color than the dark brown soil of 25 cm level. It is also much more yellow than the soil directly east of it in grids 52-55.
