E. Nielsen approved of the file card for each bone. The plan of action for the day:

  1. PVA the following bones and fragments: Bone B Box 4, Bone 2 Box 1, Box 1 fragment of Bone 2, Box 2. The PVA emulsion is brushed onto the bones and they dry sitting on plastic.
  2. Glue the extra piece onto previously completed Bone 1 Box 1- Femur.
  3. Glue Bone B (Box 4).

Note: Bone 2 (Box 1) separated at a part which had been glued while PVA was being brushed onto its surface- This is probably because the bone was warped into an arch-like shape - the glued joint expanded and could not support the [indiscernable word].

Had to clean the edges emmediately and then brushed on some PVA emulsion.

Ellen Frost assisted with the PVA treatment after first checking the following bones to see if any more pieces could be joined. No additional pieces were joined.

  • Box 4 Bone A humerus
  • Box 5 Bone A and B femurs
  • Box 1 Bone 1 femur

The following procedure for cataloguing was decided upon:

See catalogue procedure.

Chris photographed Box 7 in situ.

P.M.

Glued the extra piece onto Bone 1 (Box 1) Femur.

Box 4 Bone B: looked for pieces to join. Glued one piece.

Thelma and E. Nielsen also tried to join pieces. Lisa Lareson worked on the pieces of this bone and found several pieces which looked like a join. She glued one piece and let it dry.

Found the nutriant foramen and its position suggests that the bone may be an ulna.

Box 5: Soil was sifted by Ellen. Several tiny fragments were found in the top part of the soil. They were cleaned with alcohol-water solution (50:50) and bagged with an enclosed label. Bone fragments isolated.

Box 4 Bone C: Cleaned with alcohol and separated 2 pieces which were joined to the main section by dirt during the time the bone had been PVA treated in situ.

All bones in fragmented state must be called by a paper trail or notepaper to avoid disinfection and dust.
