Daily Log

June 20, 1977

Work continued in grids M-O/44-47, removing Dark Brown I and earth fill.  Heavy stones were encountered in grid L-M/44-47, running in an east/west direction.  These stones seem to be part of the stone capping or terracing that defines the boundary of the entire north slope.  A similar line of stones, of which are stones are the continuation, was noted in T-18, T-19 north extension, in 1975 and 1976.

Work in the I grid outside the southern wall of the building has produced much "redware," carbon and plaster, and numerous pieces of badly corroded bronze in grid I/43-44.

6 cassette of tile dumped.

1 cassetta of pottery dumped.

After the Dark Brown II stratum was removed from M-O/44-47, work began on N-O/40-43 removing the rest of the Dark Brown II stratum in an attempt to define the northern wall of the building in this area.

Excavation in grid J-N/43-44 revealed a crosswall at this point.  There seems to be a doorway in the K-L grid, as was the case in the crosswall between room 2 and 3.  It is as yet impossible to tell whether this wall is the final wall of the building, or whether the southern wall continues to the east.
