Vitrified Terra Cotta Analysis
Several fragments of vitrified terra cotta were recovered from CA 72 during the 2012 excavation season. All fragments, 101 in total, came from Locus 2 , within an ancient context. Of the total fragments, one was cataloged, 20120136
.The presence of vitrified terra cotta indicates high temperatures and burning of the artifacts. While there are many circumstances under which the terra cotta may have become vitrified, both from natural and human factors, when coupled with the high quantities of slag present in CA 72 these fragments may lend further credence to the area being used as a site for small scale metal production.
