AM

We began the morning taking depths and measurements in order to construct a diagram of the trench (see pg ). A 5cm cut was made in meter 4N 33W and hald of meter 4N 34W. Several bits of snail shell were found in this cut concentrating around 4.5N 33W near a stump. The area continued to be taken down until the soil became lighter, drier, and containing white flecks of stone. Opening depths were taken averaging around 51cm bd and thsi soil became locus 2. The floor was then leveled a bit more and baulk walls trimmed. Before continuing down into Locus 2, the remainder of Locus 1 had to be removed so a 10cm cut was made 1/2 meter into 5N 33W.

PM

We continued to work in meter 5N 33W. As the soil dried in meter 4N 33W, it was discovered that a soil change had occured above the level of Locus 2. Due to this, we decided to bring the rest of locus 1 down tot he level of the upper soil change and not with Locus 2. The area within meter 5N 33W was taken down about 15cm before work ended for the day due tor ain. Only a few sherds of terracotta were found in Locus 1 today. The majority of finds seem to come from the top 15cm. About 1/8 latter box of pottery was also found in Locus 1 consisting mostly of impasto and some bone fragments.
