A.M.

Excavation of the feature, Locus 16, continued today. Some flecks of carbon were found. Yesterday there was also carbon flecks most likely found but mistaken for organic remains of roots. The feature was taken down to a closing depth of 112 cm b.d.

Most of the archaeological material that was found came from above 75 cm b.d., although a couple pieces of pottery and tile were found further down into the feature.

There is a defined patterning of rocks that seem to be purposely placed in a circular shape, similar to that of a well. The rocks are stacked on each other and continue down past the closing depth. However, it is very difficult to excavate because it has become so deep. The soil

has been the same in color but the further down into the feature the more moist and clayish it becomes.

The entire feature was cleaned and photographed today. It was also drawn by the architect and will be drawb tomorrow. It is still uncertain as to what its function is, but there is no doubt that it was intentionally constructed and not a natural phenomenon.

There was a total of 15 tile fragments (13-2 cm), 1 coarseware fragments(7-2 cm), 1 orangeware fragment (3 cm), 14 pieces of impasto (5-1.5 cm) and 4 pieces of bone.
