AM: This morning excavation began in the N meter, defining the stone formation. Simultaneously, on the southern edge was worked on. As a means of further exposing the rock formation present here and in T106, we will extend one meter north, up to the southern edge of T109 and 2 meters to the west until the eastern edge of T106. In the northern meter we are encountering a dry and powdery soil, a brown gray color. We are exposing the larger rocks, about 3 of which are protruding around the rocks, tile fragments are being exposed. In the NW corner we are encountering a collection of much smaller stones and tile. At this time, it resembles the concentration of small stones throughout the surface of T109. For now, the concentration present here in T108 looks to be slightly less densely packed in comparison. It begins roughly 30cm from the E line. We have not yet exposed more than 30cms. The stones are 5-10cm in this space. In the NW corner the rocks are substantially larger than the NE corner. The packing of rocks in the NW does not seem to be nearly as densely packed as T106 (Sadie). We extended 5m west from the SW (1m N) corner of t109 (Austen/Charlotte) and 2m west toward t106 from about 1m down from the north edge. We did this because of the density and prominence of rocks in connection with T106, going roughly E-W and an objective ours is to see if there is a continuation between them. Extension has a few stumps (4-5) and a single full tree we plan to keep in place. We did a drawing of the new extension (Tyler Glenn did it actually). The soil color is 10YR 4-2 Dark greyish brown. We are photographing the trench to take photos as Locus 3 is being opened throughout the extension

PM: We ran a pickpass in the northwestern most meter of locus 3. In this topsoil we are encountering small stones (5-10cm). The soil is dry and compact with organic materials included in it. We removed the loose soil from our first pickpass with shovels and dustpans and hand sorted in wheelbarrows and buckets. Our dins are consistent with locus 1 so far, consisting of a couple pottery sherds and abraded small to medium pieces of terracotta (1-10cm in size). Our second pickpass ran in the 2m by 2m northwestern square of locus 3. This pickpass brought up a large number of roots, due to its proximity to the tree in the southwest corner of locus 3. We continued to encounter some badly preserved tile fragments of various sizes. The soil in this space was incredibly dry and came loose in chunks. We continued to shovel and hand sort. No=o change in pottery finds. We scraped up the majority if the loose soil that fell into locus 2. We also axed some of the large stumps in the NW 2m by 2m area of locus 3.
