Introduction

In the 1997 we decided to return to the CA area immediately NW of CA 36 + CA 37.  The CA area is N of the main road which crosses Poggio Civitate comprising large portions of the Northern slope of the hill.  The goal for this trench is the further investigation of discoveries in CA 36 from the 1991 and 1993 seasons.  These discoveries sonsisted of rectangular packings of small stones and archaeological material including ceramics, faunal remains and metal objects.  This year's excavations will be designated CA 41 at grid coordinates N 1-6, W 1-8:

For earlier excavations of CA 36 refer to , 169-229 ; .

For information on master grid system, refer to TT I 3-5 , 173 .
