A 6 by 8 m. trench designated CA 41 was established at coordinates N 1-6, W 1-8.  The south baulk of the trench is equivalent to the base line of the master grid system.  The perimeter of the trench was defined by placing picchetti at 1 m. intervals.

A datum point was established in the SW corner of meter N 1, W 8 from which all depth and will be recorded in cm. as below datum (b.d.)

CA 41 includes portions of CA 36, excavated in 1991 and 1993 (see JB IV 1-149, 167-229; TT IV 1-53) [See trend plan on facing page]  The overlapping meters are N 1-6, W 1-2.

A second trench, CA 42, was established due W, seperated by a 2 m. baulk (see LS I) from CA 41.

In preperation for excavation the area of CA 41 was cleared of vegetation.

In the previous excavation of meters N 4-3, W 1-2 a regular stone packing, located in [blank space], had been uncovered (see JB IV).  This packing was carefully cleaned and redefined.

All soil from CA 41 will be dumped in trench CA [blank space], which is approximately [blank space] meters north.
