Did a pick pass of locus 4 which is now only the southeastern meter and a half of the original measurements. Material is decreasing noticiably along with the size of the locus. Work continued in locus 3 with a trowel and baulk hammer. There is little material being recovered from locus 3 and only in the vicinity of two stumps. To the west, it was decided to create a baulk wall along the 147.5 E line just like was done to the north along the 93.5 S line. The purpose of this is to have a baulk with which we can see the stratigraphy of the western extent more clearly. This baulk was created using a pick ax. The soil was then shoveled into buckets to be sorted before dumped. Virtually no material is being recovered from this venture, very little terracotta and pottery. After removing most of the soil along this baulk, trowels & baulk hammers were used. Lodged securely in the baulk was found a piece of bucchero (special find #1). This bucchero was found in an area

That previously had been thought to be sterile.

There appear to be other inclusions in the baulk as well, visible terracotta and carbon. The remaining soil of locus 4 is being troweled up. While cleaning a piece of slipped pottery was uncovered (special find #2), it was laying flat on top of the gray clay soil we have been uncovering.

After the last of the locus 4 soil was removed and the entirely of the grey and yellow soil was exposed, it was decided to close locus 4 . Also, the bottom is now even with the depth excavated in the 2008 season. Roots were clipped and loose dirt was removed to ready the trench for photographs. Closing photographs and elevations were taken of locus 4 .
