T6E (2)

Second layer of about 10 cms.  (the layer under the topsoil) was removed from the north half of the trench (on grid, B-G). The earth was rich and contained some small stones; it was packed with worn tile fragments and pottery.

In the layer was found:

  1. sima. G-4 (Very small grooves and bulges)
  2. processional frieze I-3 (2 figures)
  3. Sima
  4. Sima or cornice
  5. unidentified terra-cotta piece
  6. fragment of sima. H-5
  7. fragment of sima in 2 pieces. H-5
  8. cornice. H-6
  9. sima. H-6. Very small and worn.

A thrid layer (the second after the topsoil) was removed.  Work started from the south-west corner.  The trench was now below the level of T8 in the northwest corner, but higher than T7 along the west edge.  Altoghether, 6 boxes of tile dumped today.
