A.M.

A great day for T21!

(Well, maybe.)

The morning began with an analysis of the stratigraphy and baulk walls.  It was observed that on the north baulk wall, there was a roughly rectangular area ( ) in the right center of the wall and a corresponding shape in the right center of the south baulk wall.  The roughly rectangular area is dark olive gray surrounded by a light brown stratum and topped by the gray soil associated with the terracing.  It also has many inclusions of stone and plaster, but little else.

More research will be done over the past loci forms for any additional information.

Also, regarding the possibility of dividing the locus, it was decided to wait on cutting the yellowish claylike soil and focus on the pinkish crumbly soil in meters 51S 161E and 52S 161E.  During the 10 cm cut, several pieces of terracotta were uncovered, including what appeared to be architectural terracottas: a very worn statue fragment and two

ridge pole tiles.

P.M.

Began clarifying and defining the tile spread.  It appears to be limited to the same two meters of the pinkish soil. After this, the baulk walls were trimmed, especially the two roughly rectangular patches, for photographing tomorrow.

Today's finds were centered mostly around terracotta, but some bronze and pottery were also found.  For terracotta, 3/4 cassetta from locus 13 and 1/8 cassetta from baulk wall trim.  For pottery, almost a full latte box from locus 13 (though dominated by courseware pieces) and 1/8 latte from baulk wall trim.  The bulk bronze from locus 13 consists of mostly small flakes and some larger balls, totalling approx. 20 fragments.  There were 4 special finds.
