Excavation began using hand picks to lower the surface of Locus 2 . Wellowish decaying rock is still present in the Northern section with darker brownish gray decaying rock appearing next to the medium-sized rocks around Special find #3. More small to medium-sized rocks are appearing in the Southern section of Locus 2 . As the soil has dried from the past day's rain, every third bucket will be sieved.

Special find #1

Fragment of in situ vessel

Locus 2

91,28 m E /38,60 m S

28,37 m AE

The soil in the Northern section of the sounding is more compacted than the rest of Locus 2 . Given this fact, as well as the increasing presence of small to medium-sized rocks, the big pick will be used to lower the Northern section of Locus 2 . Hand picks will continue to be used in the Southern section to avoid damaging the vessel in the South Eastern section of Locus 2 .

PM

Hand picking continued in the Southern half of Locus 2 as well as picks passing in the Northern half. The yellowish decaying rock soil has been uncovered in the Northern third of Locus 2 . Many small to medium-sized rocks are being uncovered across the full length

of Locus 2 . We will be removing these rocks in order to gain more thorough stratigraphic information and ascertain the full extent of the yellowish decaying rock layer.
