Excavation continued at the 1 meter depth in grids C-D/1,2.  A rock packing at this depth runs throughout grids D and E before the Lower Building wall.  By the end of the morning the rectangle had been entirely cleared to the one meter depth in grids A-E.  A pollen test sample was taken from inside the Lower Building ot a depth of 1 meter.

Work resumed in the afternoon witha cut begun in A/1-2, another 10cm in depth.  We encountered a large slab of bedrock immediately whcih further

excavation revealed to spread nearly the entire width of the trench and through B/12, sloping downward sharply at the begiining of C/1-2.  Directly above the bedrock lay a thin layer of galestra which thickened from the beginning of C/1-2 and continued to the wall.  Isolated sherds in A/1-2 and fragments of an orange ware bowl in D/2 provided the only pottery at this depth.

In cut in G-H/1-2 was also resumed and deepened to a 70cm depth.  The soil is fine and heavily carbonized, containing numerous bucchero, impasto and tile fragments.
