AM

Work in the morning began by scraping back the entire trench moving west to east and defining the rocks, continuing to level the trench with T 77 . This was done using hand picks and trowels. The soil remains a medium brown with rocks and some organic matter. A small flake of bronze was found in the northwestern corner of the trench. In addition, a sherd of incised bucchero was found in the north-east corner of the trench, just above the bedrock.

A fragment of cut-out akroteria was found in the northeast corner of the trench, which gives a better indication of the chronology and stratigraphy of the area.

There appears to be a rocky-flakier soil in the northeast corner along with multiple fragments of bone. In addition, there was a piece of ridged coarseware found just to the east of the stump in the southwest corner and a piece of possible incised bucchero found in the northeast corner.

A fragment of unusual terracotta was found near the stump in the southwest corner, along with a piece of diagnostic

bone with a modern break in the middle found in the northeast corner.

PM

In the afternoon, work began by pick axing the stump in the southwest corner until it was removed entirely. Once the stump was removed, the trench was continued to be scraped down to a level surface, defining the linear rocks in line with T 77 . A fragment of slag was found in the northeast corner. Additionally, small scatterings of charcoal patches have been found throughout the trench.

Special Find #7

Slag

Locus 2

38.89 S, 105.27 E

195 cm BD / 26.97 m AE

Since most of the trench is now level with the elevation of T 77 , all diagnostic bone will be special found. Almost the entire trench was

scraped down level throughout the day. Once all the loose soil was

picked up, end of day elevations were taken.

End of Day Elevations:

NW: 188 cm BD / 27.04 m AE

NE: 194 cm BD / 26.98 m AE

SE: 194 cm BD / 26.98 m AE

SW: 198 cm BD / 26.94 m AE

Daily Counts:

Tile: 1/5 bowl

Pottery: 182 pieces

Bone: 26 fragments

Bronze: 5 fragments
