Excavation of hte black earth area continued by lifting the layer of stones mentioned above (26 May) and digging underneath. A small quantity of sherds and bones was found mixed with the stone layer and underneath
only galestra was found.
Excavation outside the black area showed that there was galestra present above the bottom (at a higher level than the stone layer) of the black earth area everywhere except in the southwest corner of the trench where tiles and bits of pottery were found.

Since a large number of tiles came out in the early morning in grid square F2, G-H, 2 were taken down also. This aread also produced a large number of tiles of fairly large size. Boxes of tile dumped during the morning: three.
During the afternoon, there was no work in the trench.
