The area F-H, 2 continued to be excavated and one box of tiles were dumped before excavation was discontinued. See sketch plan on facing page showing relative depths of sterile soil in the area B-H, 2-4.
An extension of the trench was laid out extending 4 metres to the north to indicate grid squares B-H, 5-8. A first sweep of the area was made to level off and remove the material stirred up by the steam shovel.

In addition to the finds listed above, this first cut produces a large assortment of "oddly shaped fragments". These pieces were centred on an area of concentration in the area of E-F, 6-7. In the area of B, 6 & 7 was an area of blackened earth from which came a quantity of iron slag (?) and some blackened sherds and tiles.
A second layer was taken down with much the same result as the first. The same area of concentration produced most of the tiles and terracotta, while from the blackened area came more sherds.
