Tile:  2          Pottery: 1 1/2

A second cut to uncover soil down to the plaster layer was begun in Q/71-73.  This brought the trench floor level here to ~40-45 cm below surface level and 25-30 cm over "true" floor level.  It must be remembered, however, that these meters apparently lie outside of the building, i.e., to the north of the northernmost line of column bases.  To date, no floor has been uncovered outside of this line.  Heavy plaster and tile concentrations have been found along and outside of these bases at a level just about equaling floor level.

At ~30-35 cm in depth, tile and plaster, including disintegrated plaster in the soil, began to appear.  This was particularily noticeable in P/73.  In this meter, small bits of bronze and burned material were found.  Most of the tile and pottery was not burned.

In order to take a section, meters OPQ/73 were cut back and shaved to floor level.  The plaster and the stratum was visible ~50 cm beneath surface level.  On the OP line, a heavy burn area was encountered, including burned plaster, carbonized wood, and a small piece of bronze.  Notably, little of the pottery or tile to come out of the burned area in particular or the cut in general showed burning or vitrification.

At the end of the tday, a burned rim fragment of an impasto bowl could be seen in the area above and in the plaster stratum right near the burn area.  Tile accounted for about 60%, plaster 40%.  Some pieces of bone were also found, some of it burned.

A bronze bag for small indeterminate pieces was begun.
