The exploratory cut 3 m wide, B-D and 1 m long, 15 was excaved to a depth of 25 cm. The purpose of the cut was to see if the rock packing which parallels the northern edge of Rect. 5 continues its east to west alignment. A section of heavily packed rock was found at an approx. depth of 22 cm. It appears to be part of the same wall found in section B-C/23-18. (see diagram opposite page ). A small slice through this packing revealed further evidence of tightly packed stones. A piece of Italo-Corinthian pottery (see next page, entry # 2) was found within the packing the final cut was an excavation of section B-C/17-16 to an approx depth of 35 cm. It is this cut which uncovered the east-west packing all the way from the previously mentioned exploratory cut. Small pieces of coarse ware pottery and bone were found in both excavated areas. An area 2 m
wide, B-C and 1 m long, 15, has a surface of red soil suggestive of a burned layer.
