Boxes of pottery 1

Boxes of tile 1

A swath 6 m long, 18-23 and 2 m wide, A-B was cut to a depth of approx. 45-50 cm. This area provided one box of coarse-ware fragments, small bucchero pieces and some bone. Heavy stone packing or what may be bedrock exists at an 18-27 cm depth in section B-23/18. The rock packing runs parallel to the northern boundary line of Rect. 5 (see diagram opposite page ). the packing is 1 m wide and contains large stones intermittently spaced throught the 6 m length.

A second cut to the depth of 14-18 cm was made in an area 2 m wide, C-D and 2 m long, 22-21. This was done in an attempt to define what appears to be a room enclosed by the rock packing which runs north for 2 m and west for 5 m ( ). No pottery was found.

A third cut was made in an area 3 m wide, A-C and 2 m long, 19-18 in order to follow the rock packing which parallels the northern edge of Rect. 5. Its depth was between 10-20 cm. Pieces of coarse-ware rims and bases were found.

The final cut of the day was an exploratory cut 3 m wide, B-D and 1 m long, 15. At a depth

of 20 cm only a few pieces of coarse-ware pottery were found.
