Continued removing Locus 10 soil in meters S25-26 E136 to a depth of approximately 77-78 cm.  This work produced a half latte of pottery and bone and 24-25 fragments of tile and plaster.  Also recovered were a fragment of incised bucchero (#1), two fragments of painted ceramic (#2,5), an incised fragment of impasto (#3) and one of bucchero (#4).

The area of S25-26 E136 was then lowered further with a pick.  This new cut was designated as Locus 12 §.  The soil was a medium brown, slightly greenish looking soil, with some carbon but less than that in Locus 10.  As the area was lowered several medium sized stones, 30-40 cm., were exposed extending from the west baulk, the Upper Building wall between R13 and R14.  Several other smaller stones were encountered throughout the remaining portion of the meters.  Two fragments of painted pottery (#7,8) and a piece of terracotta with an unusual interior surface (#6) were recovered.  As work will continue here in the afternoon pottery and tile will be recorded then.

The baulks in meters S25-26 E137-139 were straightened.  This work produced 1/4 of a latte of pottery-  mostly courseware, and 16-18 bits of tile and plaster.

Work continued in S25-26 E136 removing the Locus 12 soil and defining the stones in the area.  One large stone, c. 70 cm. in length, extends into the western baulk, as do two other large stones immediately north of it. This area was lowered to c. 90 cm.b.d. and areas of a reddish aloy-like soil began to appear in pieces.  The total amount of material recovered from the Locus 12 soil was 2/3 latte box of pottery and bone and 23-25 bits of tile and plaster.

Work was begun leveling out the area in S26 E137 to discover the Locus 12 soil which has not yet been exposed here.  The soil in this half meter was the medium brown carbon and plaster included soil of Locus 10.  This work produced 16 fragments of pottery and bone and 6 fragments of plaster and tile.
